The company also launched a new feature called SuperComposer for Insiders. Changes are available through compilation 8.13 on Android.
Microsoft is demonstrating its love for Skype Insiders on mobile devices today. The company says it is expanding its recently announced iOS redesign for Android. In addition, Insiders on the two major mobile platforms can now test a new feature that Microsoft calls "SuperComposer."
Starting with the new design, Android users will see the user interface adjusted through Skype version 8.13. As mentioned, this is only available to Insiders at this time, but will reach all users soon. Like the iOS launch 10 days ago, the new design changes introduce a new menu bar and thinner headers.
The goal of the adjustment is to make the Skype experience more fluid on mobile devices. Microsoft completely revised the communication platform in the summer, bringing the biggest change in more than a decade.
However, on the mobile, the changes were harshly criticized. Microsoft has been playing with the design ever since to create a smoother user interface. In terms of this last adjustment, the company has reintroduced a lower bar that simplifies access to the main features. As in iOS, chat headers have also been on a diet and offer more screen space for text.
Microsoft says that many Android users requested the same treatment as iOS. In response, Microsoft has issued compilation 8.13 inside. It comes with the following design changes:
- Adhere to Google's material design guidelines for navigation of the bottom bar
- Returns a contextual FAB to quickly access key actions
- It has an updated header and search icon to make you feel more at home on Android
SuperComposer
Positive design changes are nice, but what we all want are new features. Microsoft is covered by Android and iOS users (forget about Windows 10 Mobile users) with SuperComposer. This new addition of Skype provides easier access to contacts and information when composing a message.
When selecting compose, a new screen will appear showing recent contacts. There is also quick access to features such as search bots, add contact, invitations, make a call and a new group.
